Lizard Control Management

Assessment

Lizards are common pests in buildings that are surrounded by vegetation or are close to areas of dense and shaded plants. There are several different types that naturally occur around houses and other buildings, they may be a pest according to the season or geographic region. Lizards are pests simply by their presence indoors; they do not live or infest indoor areas, but come in from surrounding vegetation. These animals may contaminate products.

There are several different types that naturally occur around houses and other buildings, they may be a pest according to the season or geographic region. Lizards are pests simply by their presence indoors; they do not live or infest indoor areas, but come in from surrounding vegetation. These animals may contaminate products. Lizards are active primarily during daylight. They move indoors during the early evening or early morning in search of insects that are attracted to lights. Lizards feed primarily on insects and spiders; they especially prefer ants. They are solitary animals, but they may occur in large numbers where there is abundant vegetation and moist conditions. These animals can easily walk on smooth surfaces, such as walls and ceiling. Their only protection is a tail that breaks off and their speedy retreat when they are startled.

(a) Mode of Treatment:

The treatment aims at use of oil/water based spray targeted towards the live Lizard and is confined to non- production areas. For production area, use of physical control can be undertaken. However, emphasis needs to be given on preventive methods implemented by the client. This treatment will be carried out at certain specific times of the day, which depends upon the behaviour of lizards.

(b) Frequency:

The frequency recommended is monthly. However considering the type of premises and the level of client the frequency can be increased. This involves shut down of premises during spray operations and moving your (products / work in progress material- mention type of product etc.) away from the floor to avoid contamination. All the products have to be kept covered during our treatment.

(c) Pest Management log sheets:

As required will be maintained with details of the chemicals used and areas with date & time of treatment and client signature etc. Inspection card/Progress report (IC/PC) will be generally used in most of the cases. However specially designed log sheets will also be used in some cases depending on the type of client.

(d) Suggestions to clients on Preventive Measures to be taken:

These animals are difficult to control because they may enter premises from several locations. The best control is to limit open doors and windows, especially those at ground level. Sticky traps are perhaps the best method of control. These should be placed around doors and windows. Outdoors (and even indoor) lights at night should be reduced if lizards become prevalent, they are attracted to the insects that come to the lights. Reducing the vegetation around premises may be helpful in limiting the number of lizards that are in the area.

Methodolgy with Spray:
